Welcome to Woodland School!
-
Dear Woodland School Families,
It is an honor and privilege to serve the students, parents, and educators that make up the Woodland School community. I am excited to have the opportunity to work for and with your child. I look forward to our partnership as parents and community members. I am dedicated to providing an environment that supports growth and success for students, teachers, and parents in the educational process.
Personally, I was born and raised in Milford (Class of ‘93), and even attended Woodland School for grades 3-5! I grew up playing sports and love to follow the local teams, especially the Patriots. Both my parents were educators, and I grew up in a family that valued the work taking place in schools. Currently, I live in Milford with my own family. My wife Trisha and I have two children - Will (12) and Clare (10) - who keep us very busy! Professionally, I am starting my 27th year in education. I was an elementary school classroom teacher for most of those years, and I am beginning my 12th year as a building administrator.
During my career as an educator, I have developed beliefs that guide my work as a teacher and administrator. I care deeply about the physical, emotional, and intellectual safety and well-being of every student. To that end, at the core of my work and decision making, are the children entrusted to me.
- I believe children deserve a physical environment where students and staff take care of one another, and the school facilities and classrooms provide for a secure and healthy setting.
- I believe children deserve an emotional environment where respect, kindness, empathy, acceptance, and responsibility are among the shared values of the entire school community. These values are taught and practiced throughout our days.
- I believe children deserve an intellectual environment where every student is engaged in the work and learning at hand. Every student deserves challenging learning goals. Every student should be held to high expectations in order to meet those goals. I believe every child deserves timely, specific, and constructive feedback, and taking academic risks and making mistakes are part of the learning process.
There must be a partnership involving children, parents, teachers, and the community in order to make these beliefs a reality and to create an environment conducive for growth and learning. Open communication and a relationship built on trust are essential components of a truly successful schoolparent partnership. I encourage you to establish a positive relationship with your child’s teacher(s), the Woodland School staff and administration, and the greater Woodland School community.
This is an extremely exciting time to be a part of the Woodland School community! Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have any questions. I look forward to working with you and your child during the 2023-2024 school year.
Sincerely,
Tim Kearnan
